I'm confused about how they know that the image(s) posted on your website are unlicensed / breach of copyright?
In many cases, a graphic designer has paid to license the image.
The first thing the licensor should be doing is asking for proof of license, and/or sending a cease and desist.
If you receive these letters:
• If you do have a license, then don't worry, and provide proof
• If you did not have a license, take down the image.

Because they know to whom they (or their agents) have granted licences.

In many cases, a graphic designer has paid to license the image.

And in far, far more cases, they have not.
Most people have no idea that being in the public doman and being in the wild on the internet are not the same legal thing.

The first thing the licensor should be doing is asking for proof of license, and/or sending a cease and desist.

"Should"?
Says who? They are free to send a bill if they choose.
