My workplace has instore CCTV installed to monitor customers and staff for security and performance monitoring. All staff are aware of the camera's presence and there is signage to make customers aware also. There are no cameras in bathrooms but there are cameras in our break room. Our employer has recently upgraded the CCTV program and has enabled access from home by himself, his wife (not an employee) and his teenage children (part time employees). Can you help with what employment and privacy laws apply in this situation?

Is it camera only (video), or video + audio?

What is the approx. annual turnover of the business?

If the turnover is >$3M, there's a good chance the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies and there may well be a breach of that Act. Talk to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Otherwise there is little that can be done.
