I've had a motor vehicle accident in a work vehicle. The accident was in our car park and I swiped the car door on the gate to the car park. I was informed that I could request my company organise quotes or go through insurance and pay $500.00 excess. I agreed to the excess.

Several days later I was informed that my excess was now $950.00 due to me having a license for less than 5 years.

I was informed that I could not seek my own quotes and only my company could decide where to get the car repaired.

My union rep has told me I am not liable to pay for any excess as driving the vehicle is a requirement of my job and because I was not grossly negligent. Is this true?

As this accident happened in NSW, then the union rep is likely correct, assuming the accident was in the course of your duties. EG: Not in after hours private use.
