I am a student who was accused of shoplifting from a Woolworths store. I was asked by two officers to follow them and sign a ban notice for shoplifting. The thing is I’ve been distressed about fighting with my partner about some issues and having been on the phone texting and calling I forgot to pay for a nose spray and eye drop. Those were the only two things I had in my bag . They asked me to follow them and made me sign a 6 month ban notice. I had no Id on me but a student uni card that was it.
It was humiliating to be confronted in that manner and then on top of that I explained them my situation by showing them my personal text messages as well. One of the officers looked at it and said nothing while the other was busy filling the form and taking my picture. What do I do in this situation

Did they let you pay for the items?

it was humiliating to have to show them my personal conversations and to have them escort me in and out. I hope this never happens to anyone else.

there was no police involvement or anything they did not say anything else other than you are banned from woolworths for 6 months.

Then my bet is that it's over.

Shop elsewhere.
Lift your face from your phone screen.
And carry your purchases in the basket they provide,
instead of your backpack or your pocket.

Frankly, just sharpen up, and you'll be fine.

It must have been embarrassing and scary/intimidating. Sorry you had to experience that but count yourself lucky since I work at woolworths and shoplifting is incredibly common. Each day offenders are caught and apprehended and usually police are called and they're taken into custody and charged.
We have the data and statistics on how much is stolen each week and it is astronomical!

6 Months is nothing as most offenders get at least 1 year or up to 2 years ban and once it is over, there are so many customers and staff that noone will literally even know who you are.
