Hi,

My friend just applied for a national police check for the final stages of Australian permanent residency. He has been here for 10 years.

12 months ago, he had a fight with a friend. It went to court & he is on a good behaviour bond. No other issues but this.

Will it effect his permanent residency?

Hi Bernadette,

If you need to have a police check, the chances are it will have an impact on the determination of permanent residency. A national police check can show more details than just convictions it can include admissions of guilt, good behaviour bonds and suspended sentences. In saying that I'm sure its not the only factor considered.

This blog post might give you some more information and a better understanding of what the police check will show: https://www.lawanswers.com.au/blog/what-would-a-police-check-reveal-about-you/

Was there a conviction recorded or not?

Hi!

Yes there was a conviction. He paid a fine & was put on a good behaviour bond. This was 12 months ago. Only issue since he has been here in the last 10 years
