Is there an informal way of having a lawyer draw up an agreement between a separated couple to place a property under ownership of one person, even though it is currently under both names. A friend told us this was possible? We are both wanting to keep our 2 current properties and own one each but if we go through the formal process of property transfer, the banks won't agree because one of the properties is security (equity) for the other. Is there a way of doing this to show good faith (we are amicable) or would you strongly suggest otherwise.

It is not informal, it is formal and it is called a binding financial agreement. You each need your own lawyer.
