NSW SDRO - Should I Pay the Fine or Go to Court?

Hi,

I received a camera fine for disobeying a red light camera arrow at a major intersection in Sydney very late at night.

When I arrived at the stop line at intersection, in the right turn only lane, I looked for the traffic signal, only the pole was laying on the ground as it was being replaced by workers. I could not see the other signal on my extreme left as I was the first car at the intersection and when safe to do so, I turned right and got photographed.

When the fine arrived, the photo clearly shows workers and crane truck in background, although it does show the arrow on my extreme left as red which was impossible for me to see.

My question is if I go to court, will they take this into consideration? I returned to the intersection 15 minutes after taking my friend home and photographed the workers and the intersection. Also I have photos taken a few days later of the intersection during the day. I rang SDRO /NSW Revenue. They can not review this fine as it is serious and even though I have not been booked for 16 years and have a good record.

Basically they said I should pay the fine or go to court.

Sorry but I can't find how to start a thread. I have a similar problem. I was fined for doing 79kph in a 60 zone. I still have time to contest it. The 60 mph sign is partially obscured by a new roadworks sign. I have photos of this. If I elect a court hearing , am I likely to get a reduced fine?

As in, 9kph over the limit (the limit before the obscured 60 sign is 70 kph).

So, is your infringement for what we used to call. 'Exceed Speed 15-30'?

Do I read your post correctly, that you were doing 19km/h over the speed limit, around roadworks?

No roadworks. The road in the 60kph zone is a new bridge. It had been completed for 3 months. The sign that was partially obscuring the 60kph speed limit sign is a "bridge renewal program" sign. It was put there after the roadworks ro inform the public that the completed roadworks is part of an undergoing program to renew bridges. The bridge really looks like it should be an 80kph zone. The sign in question is almost at the bottom of a hill. Is there a way to send a picture?

I am going to court end of November the offence carries a 3 demerit penalty i will post results of court case later.
