I am currently paying the tenant to stay in one of the bedrooms of the house he is renting. My monthly rent includes my share of the internet, power, gas and water. The house is in Victoria. The tenant has just informed me that he wants me to move out because my expectations of how clean the house should be is far higher than his. We only have a verbal agreement that does not include how long I can rent the room for (i.e. periodic agreement ). To date I have paid my full rent as agreed.
1. What is the minimum notice period the tenant must give me?
2. Does the tenant need to issue me an official termination notice?

Even though you have a verbal agreement, it’s still a good idea for the tenant to provide you with a written notice to make things clear and official. It helps in documenting the end of the tenancy and avoids any potential misunderstandings.

In Victoria, even with a verbal agreement, tenants usually need to give at least 60 days’ notice if they want you to move out. It’s always best to get an official termination notice in writing to make things clear and avoid confusion.

I had a similar issue once, and what helped me was checking out airbnb management Mornington Penisula for advice. They were great at explaining how to handle tricky rental situations and made the whole process a lot smoother. It’s definitely worth getting some professional guidance if you’re feeling stuck.
