Can someone please advise:
a) can a lawyer charge for an itemised bill?
b) what specific information needs to be included on an itemised bill?
c) can any supporting documents be requested when disputing a bill and requesting an itemised bill? E.g Ledger or diary entries?
d) can specific times be requested, and the person doing the task be stipulated on the itemised bill? (Not just the date)
A friend recently changed lawyers, from a male to female, as she felt more comfortable with a female lawyer.
The other lawyer, was very upset and sent an amended invoice.
For the invoice in question, a lot of entries do not make sense, for example sometimes, 0.10 hour is charges at $10 per unit, and for others at $60 per 0.10 unit
Other items which dont make sense, are emails which have simply been re-forwarded t her and have been charged at 0.20 units ($120) when this is a task that takes no longer than 5 minutes.
She would like a more specific bill before paying it. The lawyer is threatening to place a caveat if not paid within 7 days. (at her cost)
(The amount is less than $4thousand dollars)
She is going to pay it, but it appears she has been ripped off and would like more information.
How does she avoid getting a caveat on her house in 7 days whilst fairly doing her due diligence?
thanks everyone
