I'm required to provide 6 weeks notice, hence 30 working days. I handed in my resignation on 6/12/16. Is my notice effective from the day I handed in my resignation?

I calculated my last day as 16/1/17. My employer is disputing this, stating it's the 17/1/17. He believes the notice period is effective from the day after I handed it in. Can someone please clarify?

Thanks

When an employee provides notice of their resignation, the notice:
  • starts when the employee gives the notice; and
  • ends on the last day of employment.
If you can resolve the dispute- perhaps call the Fair work ombudsman? Does one day really make that much difference to either of you?
