Hi. I am in need to a Family Law specialist/ lawyer in Melbourne ASAP. I am quite far into my Family Law matter since this process started in February 2020 in which my first hearing took place, therefore there is an existing history. We have interim court orders in place including an IVO against my former partner. The matter has not been resolved since we are in a continuous child custody battle.

I have an appointed lawyer though positioned in Queensland and has been costing me an arm and a leg. (I do not qualify for Legal Aid btw) I would like to settle my current lawyer's fees and then enter into a payment plan agreement with a new lawyer in Melbourne. My next hearing will take place on the 27th of May which is an interim defending hearing (which would require a Barrister) and a trial that is booked for November 2021. A recent Family Report has been concluded though awaiting the outcome at the start of April 2021. I obviously do not aim to go to trail and need a lawyer who can properly negotiate this matter or even specialize into collaborative law.

Please let me know if I am completely screwed.

Out of interest, how do you get a trial booked for November before you've even made it past an interim defended? My understanding was that you can only get placed in a trial pool once you exit the interim hearing process? At least, that's how it was for me.

It was just booked on our last hearing, defended hearing and trial. Our process was initiated by the Federal Court, not Family Court, maybe there is a difference in procedure. I cannot confirm this, it just played out this way.
