I’ve been cut off from my mother by a sibling who has gained power of attorney, moved into Mums home and relocated her to a nursing home. It’s been three years and I cannot find my mother as the sibling has refused to divulge where she is or how she is or even if she’s still alive. I believe mum hasn’t contacted me because she’s been told some story by the sibling, (who has always been her admitted favourite) as I cared for her in her own home, visiting regularly to do shopping, outings appointments etc for 22 years, so no animosity there. What can I do to find her?

Hi Junie,
Sorry to hear about this no doubt stressful situation. You could hire a private investigator. I know someone who can help if you want their name and number?

Approach the Public Trustee/Adult Guardian/equivalent in your state or territory. Inform them of the situation, and that the relevant person is an appointed attorney. They may be able to assist.
