Three generations of a family are traveling overseas with the "grandparents" (my wife and I) funding the whole trip. I am thinking that my wife and I need to have travel insurance that covers the total cost of the trip but that my son and daughter-in-law need to also have travel insurance should something happen directly to them or their children. My key question is are my wife and I exposed if something happens that results in us needing to cancel the whole trip (a major natural disaster, for example) and insurers not accepting we have incurred the total loss? Or should we ensure our son and daughter-in-law have cover for what we have gifted them and, in the event of a major loss, trust they will claim "their" portion and reimburse us?
