Hello,
Im seeking advice in the workplace specifically Employee Handbooks.
Current manager with no managerial experience who relies on Employsure to the maximum. I’m aware the legislation changed surrounding personal leave, specifically about medical appointments and personal leave can no longer be used for this (either take it without pay or annual leave)
Firstly can anyone advise the date this change took affect?

During my experience employers are mostly good with this and let you use personal leave to attend appointment that is notably because of health issues, and even if not asked have always provided a certificate.
Current employers is a deliberate power hungry person and won’t let this happen, however the last few months of had to assist immediate family member and have taken a few hours here and there to carry this out which surprisingly seems to be ok without a carers certificate!!! But do provide them.

Employer updates Employee handbook as needed then we have to download read and accept, yet the latest version I haven’t felt comfortable with and haven’t accepted yet as I have questions. They got my manager to discuss this with me (my manager is totally onboard with my questions but still being loyal to business) then forwarded my concerns to them including the need for proof when compassionate leave may be required, knowing all well I will be soon faced with this and I have said it’s an insensitive request.

They haven’t once spoken to me face to face, and then I receive a demand to sign the latest employee handbook with it written if I don’t it will then lead to written warning and/or termination, mind you the letter I received suggested I disagree with suppling evidence of absence which was never in question and have always provided.
I have not suggested I won’t accept it I just have further questions before I do.

I have felt so threatened intimidated by this letter as it is so off track to original unanswered queries. It’s causing me so much anxiety.

Ps. Many employees at work have many issues also with their dismissive manner.

I have spoken with fair work briefly and they said it’s a grey area but certainly said their way of handling this isn’t a good idea and suggested General Protections Application, yet I’m too anxious to go there currently. Employers live and breathe employsure (not a reliable and consistent source in my opinion) because they aren’t experienced in any area at all

Any input would be very appreciated — feeling grateful.
