Hi,
I am making this enquiry on behalf of a friend who, until recently, was a member on this site.
Due to his dire financial position he used this site to make enquiries regarding his own legal position, in which his former wife has lied about Domestic Violence and multiple breaches.

I know for an absolute fact that he has never done the things that she has had him charged and convicted of.
Last week he had to attend Court again charged with committing domestic violence for using this site to try and understand his legal position. Whilst he never mentioned his former Wife's name in any of his enquiries, he did use his real name as his log in and member name.
His former Wife has obviously been trolling the internet and and reviewing his posts.
He has also been banned by the Judge from using Facebook, in which he has never discussed any of his legal proceedings and/or made derogatory statements about his former wife.

Can he be charged for simply attempting to clarify his legal position via an online forum such as this?

Regards

Hi @Logman,
Some laws exist which make it an offence to publish information which identifies people involved in a proceeding. The most notable are family law proceedings. See also: Reminder - Family Law Act and Restriction on Publication of Court Proceedings

The Forum permits the use of alias usernames and makes it easy to change any user/account information which is inadvertently published.

Seems unlikely but does depend on the orders he has to obey.
