I haven’t paid my shite rates for several years as I got screwed over major by a previous employer and have been working on clearing other debts. I read an article that says we aren’t required to as the 3rd level of government isn’t actually legal. Is this true? Article can be found at Councils have no Authority to charge Rates

Pay your rates. Discussion over pseudo legal babble isn’t permitted on this forum, so I won’t get into the whys - but they’re wrong. Rates are legal.

Local councils generally have the power to sell your property if you don’t pay for a sufficient period of time. Given your post, I’d say you’re coming into that time range.
