Hi guys, we have a candidate for one of our roles who claimed that they are currently paid $150,000.

After the interview we were thinking about hiring them so we asked for a payslip.

The payslip looks suspicious, it is probably fake.

How should we proceed? If the payslip is fake then has the candidate broken the law?

Thanks,
Andy

How should we proceed?
Ask to see some bank statements? Or his Tax Assessment for FY 2018-19?
If he baulks, then you can be reasonably suspicious that he is having you on.

In any event, do you mind? Look within - you've already decided if he's worth that.
And you've already decided what you think of his personal ethics.
If the payslip is fake then has the candidate broken the law?
Maybe.
Not really enough facts to be able to call that for sure.
