Can the truth be classified as defamation? Me ex husband is not paying child support. He is politically connected and on a number of boards. If I tell these people about this, is that defamation?

No, the truth is a total defence to defamation. You may want to collect proof or documentary support for your statement though, to evidence that the statement is true, as your ex husband probably won't be too happy about your statement.
