Hi, I’m currently in the middle of a residential build. When the building company did a site cut there was now the need for a retaining wall between me and the neighbour, as I’m lower. My builder is saying that is my job to pay for and that it’s not his responsibility. My understanding was that retaining walls that emerge out of a site cut should be covered in the site costs. He has already charged me a lot of money for alterations to the slab and this is the new thing he has come up with. Am I wrong? Is it my responsibility? I just don’t understand how you sign a contract and then these surprise costs keep popping up. 😣

Read your contract. If it is not in the contract then you pay.
